The 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL 17 or TATA IPL 2024) is the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League, a franchise Twenty20 cricket league in India, organized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India. The tournament will include ten teams and take place from March 22 to May 26, 2024.Chennai Super Kings are the defending champions, having won their fifth title during the previous season beating Gujarat Titans, becoming the joint-successful franchise in the history of the tournament along with Mumbai Indians.
On February 14, 2024, Arun Singh Dhumal, the chairman of the Indian Premier League, announced that the tournament would be held in India. The league will collaborate with the Indian government and other agencies to finalize the schedule. Dhumal also stated that the match allocation to states will be based on the Lok Sabha Election 2024 schedule released by the Election Commission of India.
BCCI is planning to start IPL 2024 from March 22. IPL 2024 schedule will be announced in two halves. The schedule for the first half will be announced and then the schedule for the other half will be announced after the announcement of general election dates,” Arun Dhumal told ANI.
The schedule for this season was announced on February 22, 2024, at 5 pm. According to IPL Chairman Arun Singh Dhumal, this season’s schedule will be announced in multiple phases due to the 2024 Lok Sabha Election. The first announcement includes the schedule for the first 17 days, consisting of 21 matches.
The opening match of the tournament will be played on 22 March 2024 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai between the defending champions Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore. The final match will be played on 26 May 2024.
